The Coal Mine Workers Health Scheme assessment form was updated on 1 May 2016 to clarify that spirometry must be undertaken by appropriately trained operators to the standard outlined in Queensland Health: Spirometry (Adult) Guideline.

The hands-on course includes both theory & practical components & covers the core competencies recommended by Queensland Health and the ANZSRS (Australian & New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science).   It provides the essential skills & knowledge for participants to become competent in performing high quality Spirometry.

Course Components:

  • Full day workshop (includes both theory & practical skills assessment)
  • Post-workshop review & QC assessment.

Course Objectives:

  • Understand the concepts of Spirometry
  • Apply good Spirometry testing practice in measurements, according to international guidelines
  • Identify and overcome instrument or patient-related problems
  • Interpret the results
  • Understand quality assurance & infection control requirements

Course Pre-Requisite:

There are no pre-requisites to the onsite Spirometry Training course. This course is available to all health professionals conducting spirometry in Primary Care or Occupational Health, including Nurses; GPs; Physiotherapists; Asthma Educators; Exercise Physiologists; Occupational Health Hygienists; Screeners & Aboriginal Health Workers.
